A Step-by-Step Guide to Streamlining Deal Flow

The Covalent Atlas platform empowers you to create tailored web forms to streamline your deal sourcing, gather essential information from founders, and easily identify investment opportunities that align with your strategic goals.

When you navigate to the Forms tab, you'll see a dashboard overview of your total forms, identifiers, and submissions. If you haven't created a form yet, this dashboard will be empty.

Please note: The Covalent platform is a web application designed for larger screens and is best viewed on a desktop or laptop for the optimal user experience.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a New Form

To get started, click the + New Form button in the top right corner. You'll then have two options: Create a New Form or Reuse an Old Form.

1. Let's Build a Form


If you choose to Create a New Form, you'll be prompted to name and describe your form.

  • Name your form: Give your form a clear, descriptive name.

  • Describe your form (optional): Add a brief description to give founders context on what information you're looking for.

After you've named and described your form, click Next. The form will be created, and you can now begin to build it out.


2. Build Out Your Form


The platform supercharges your form creation process by providing default fields that align with typical deal sourcing requirements.

Default form questions include:
  • Company name

  • One-liner

  • Company description

  • Company website

  • Country

  • Investment round

  • Industry

  • Amount to raise

  • Valuation

  • Region

  • CEO Name

  • CEO Email

  • CEO LinkedIn

  • Founding Date


As you build your form, you will see a live preview on the right-hand side, so you know exactly how it will look to founders.


Add More Fields:


You can add more questions to your form by clicking on the + Add field button. When adding a new field, you can name the new field/question, add a description, and make it a required field if necessary. 

You can also choose from a variety of field types to collect the information you need, such as:

  • Multiple Choice

  • Single select

  • Short answer text

  • Long answer text

  • Date

  • Phone number

  • Email

  • URL


3. Customize the After Submission Page


After building your form, you can customize the page that users see after they submit their response. 

This includes:
  • Custom message title: Add a custom title, such as "Thank you."

  • Custom message: Write a personalized message to the founders who have submitted the form.

  • Redirect to URL after form is submitted?: You can enable this option to redirect the user to a specific webpage after submission.


4. Create Unique Sourcing Links


On the final page, you can create unique response links to track where your deals are coming from.

All links are tied to the same form, but each new link is tailored to a specific source. This allows you to effectively collect and organize responses based on their origin.


Click the New Link button to get started.


For each new link, you will be prompted to:

  • Link color & name: Choose a color and name for the link (e.g., "YCombinator" or "Website").

  • Link identifier: Add a short, simple, and memorable identifier (max 8 characters), such as "YC" or "WEB." This identifier will be used to label responses for easy reference.

Once you've added all the links and identifiers you need, click Complete to finish the form build-out process.


Congratulations! 🎉 Your deal-sourcing form is now live, and you can share the unique links with your team to begin collecting responses.


Reusing an Old Form

This option is perfect for saving time. It allows you to use a previously created form as a template.

  • Name your form: Give the new, duplicate form a unique name.

  • Select a form: Choose the existing form you wish to duplicate from the dropdown menu.


Once you have selected a form, click Continue. The platform will create a new copy of the form, and you can now proceed to the form building and customization process shared above.
